ABOUT OUR CAUSE

The AJ Donohue Foundation carries on the goals and dreams of our namesake, AJ Donohue. AJ was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager in 2005. While a patient at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, AJ was inspired to raise money for the hospital - and #TeamAJ was born. AJ sold stickers at school, church, and football games in hopes to raise enough money to buy new recliners for every room in the hospital.

AJ passed away in September 2006, but not before #TeamAJ surpassed $50,000 in sticker sales - enough to fulfill his goal.

Since his passing, #TeamAJ has organized and become the AJ Donohue Foundation, Inc. The Foundation funds pediatric oncology scholarships at Wolfson Children's Hospital, and at the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, GA. The Foundation also continues to support Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. In recent years, the Foundation has focused on helping grow the Wolfson Children's Clinic at the Southeast Georgia Regional Hospital in Brunswick.

Past projects include:

  • Purchasing telehealth equipment for the Wolfson clinic in Brunswick to allow local patients to receive world class care from physicians across the country;

  • Building a toy-and-game room to provide a space for patients and their families to enjoy necessary breaks from treatment;

  • Building a state-of-the-art sensory room for patients of all ages with sensory challenges and special needs;

  • Funding a patient-and-family suite in the new Wolfson tower in Jacksonville - a unique space in the PICU unit where families can stay overnight in the same room as their newborns.

Since inception, #TeamAJ has raised over $800,000 towards its goals. With your help, we will further expand the Foundation and spread AJ's message of courage and determination for years to come.
